- During the war, women enjoyed employment gains, even though many lost their jobs when the war ended.
- Over 6 million women entered the work force, boosting the percentage to 35% of total women in the work force.
- Some jobs offered women more challenging work and better pay than traditionally female jobs.
- Roosevelt stated that the efforts of civilians at home to support the war through personal sacrifice was as critical to winning the war as the efforts of the soldiers themselves. "Rosie the Riveter" became the symbol of women laboring in manufacturing



- Many women also took advantage of openings in journalism and other professions, while men were at war.
- Even though they took on male jobs in industry, they were still payed less.
- Propaganda helped encourage women to stay in the workforce for their husbands at war, and for their economy.
- Women became very impressive, by taken over male jobs they showed the world that women could be just as productive as men.
